SUARAJATIM.CO.ID– Quick steps in handling Lombok earthquake victims are conducted by various parties. Including the academic community of the College of Tourism STP Bali, which has mitigation experience during the last Mount Agung disaster.

Without further ado, the students and lecturers and staff of STP Bali moved around to help the evacuation process of tourists arriving at Benoa Harbor on Sunday (5/8). The tourists were on vacation in Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno when the earthquake occurred.

STP Bali academics also help tourists search for hotels or go directly to the airport.

“I, on behalf of the STP Bali academics and personalities expressed our deep mourning for the earthquake that struck our brothers and sisters in Lombok as well as in Bali,” said the Head of STP Bali, Dewa Gede Ngurah Byomantara, who also participated in helping the evacuation.

Byomantara said, as a part of the tourism industry, STP Bali must be responsive to disasters. With the participation of STP Bali in helping the evacuation process, tourists are expected to feel more comfortable and cared for when a calamity occurs to avoid trauma.

“This is also one of our contributions to the world of tourism as well as a learning curve for students, because actually, tourism personnel must have a spirit of service, even in this kind of situation” said Byomantara.

Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya also appreciated what STP Bali did. This proves that all tourism stakeholders have responded to the needs. This also portrays high credibility of Indonesian tourism, especially in the safety and security sector.

“I thank you for the participation of all parties who immediately responded to assist the tourists. All parties worked hand in hand to provide the best service. Including STP Bali,” said Tourism Ministry Arief Yahya.

The minister also said that he has activated the Ministry of Tourism Crisis Center Team. The team is tasked with direct monitoring of Access, Amenities and Attractions in areas affected by the earthquake as well as the tourists.

‘What is certain is that we will continue to provide the latest information regarding the handling of tourists in Lombok and Bali. We hope that people can be calm and avoid misleading issues or hoaxes, “concluded Minister Arief.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya was quite satisfied with smooth coordination between the Ministry of Tourism Team Crisis Center, West Nusa Tenggara Tourism Board, College of Tourism Lombok, College of Tourism STP Nusa Dua Bali, tourism industry associations in Bali and Lombok, Angkasa Pura I, Lombok airports and Ngurah Rai Airport, all relevant ministries, Police and Armed Forces, BNPB and National SAR Team.
